Mine Field

4 shiney stars

This game teaches kids the value of communication and trust.

It works best if you have a large area, indoor or outdoor. Setup a series of obstacles (chairs, tables, balls, etc).

Ask the group to pair off - one person is blind folded and must make their way through the 'mine field' by listening to their partner. Their partner verbally talks them through but cannot enter the mine field. If the person hits a 'mine' they must return to the start. After everyone has gone through, swap roles.

At the end of the game, talk about what they learnt about communication and trust.

  • what was helpful communication and what wasn't
  • was it easy to trust your guide
  • what were some of their feelings - fear, safety, etc
  • was it easier going first or second

fun game if You do it as a race. Two teams of four or five, everyone blind folded except a caller at the other end for each team.

we used a row of chairs not very far apart and stuck mousetraps in between and asked the kids to walk blind folded with barefeet down the centre! this uses alot of commuinication and the kids seemed to think it was halirious to through a mousetrapina and set of the others

We played this game at a retreat this spring - we had the other kids try to distract the blindfolded person by giving them wrong directions. We were then able to talk about the importance of following the voice of Jesus and not be distracted by the things around us. It was a great tool.
