Sit everyone in a circle. Each seat is assigned a name or number, starting with Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, one, two, three, four, etc. (until everyone has a number)
Everyone joins in, repeating a four-count rhythm, slapping their legs twice, clapping once, and silence for one count (ie slap, slap, clap ...., slap slap clap ....., etc).
"Matthew" always starts.
On the first count (leg slap), he calls his own name (Matthew), then the name/number of another position. That person must then call their own number, followed by the name/number of another's position
If someone misses the rhythm, or fails to properly calls their own name or number, etc., they go to the last position, and the game starts over.
The objective of the game is to become Matthew, and stay in that position as long as possible.

When we used to play this at uni it was always very funny and brought out the competitive side - we played it with Pope, chicken, worm though... Extra amusement then :-)- Chantal (25 Sep 2008)
Did this when i was in highschool but we made up
Silly sounds combined with sign. It was a pat, clap , pat clap
You would say your name/ sound on the clap , pat, say a persons call sign (name/sound) on the clap and then by the next clap that person says their name/sound and names a new person on the next clap ....
