Sardines

4 shiney stars

"Sardines" is a fun and suspenseful variation of hide-and-seek that can be especially enjoyable for youth groups. In this game, one person hides while the rest of the group tries to find them. However, unlike traditional hide-and-seek where the seekers continue searching until everyone is found, in Sardines, when someone finds the hider, they join them in their hiding spot. This process continues until there's only one person left seeking. The last person to find the hiding group becomes the hider in the next round.

Here's how to play Sardines:

Setup:

Choose one person to be the first hider. They will find a hiding spot while the others close their eyes and count to a predetermined number (usually 30 to 60 seconds).

Gameplay:

Once the counting is done, the seekers (everyone except the hider) start looking for the hider.

When a seeker finds the hider, they quietly join them in their hiding spot without revealing the location to the others.

Gradually, the hiding spot becomes more crowded as more seekers find the hider and squeeze into the hiding place.

The game continues until only one person is left searching. This person is typically declared the hider for the next round.

Tips for Playing Sardines:

Encourage players to be quiet while searching and when they find the hider. The element of surprise and suspense is a big part of what makes this game enjoyable.

Set boundaries for where the game can be played to ensure everyone's safety.

Establish some basic rules to ensure the game is played safely, such as not hiding in small, dangerous, or off-limits places.

It's a good idea to play this game in an area where there are plenty of potential hiding spots, such as a large room, a park, or a forested area.

Consider setting a time limit for each round to keep the game moving, especially if you have a large group.

Make sure everyone has a general understanding of the boundaries and rules before starting.

Sardines is an excellent game for building camaraderie and encouraging teamwork among the members of your youth group. It's also a game that promotes creativity as players look for unique and unexpected hiding spots. Plus, the thrill of finding the hiding group can lead to lots of laughter and memorable moments.
