Shave the balloon

3.5 stars

Divide into groups of 3 or 4.

Each group gets a balloon covered in shaving cream, and a razor.  Their job is to shave the balloon.  First group to complete the task is the winner.

The trick is - when the balloon breaks, the shaving cream goes everywhere, so be prepared!  A little nick on the razor's edge before hand will assure that the balloons will break.

A variation: The "Water Balloon Shave"

Split into couples (guys/girls) - the guys come to the front of the room and sit in chairs facing the audience. Each guy has a large water balloon on their heads. The girl partner(s) cover the balloons with shaving cream, and with a single edged razor blade (no razor, just the blade) try to "shave" all the soap off of the balloon without breaking it. Whoever is the first to succeed is the winner.

- Beth (14 Sep 2008)

- Nick (27 Jan 2009)

My youth group is going on a spring retreat tomorrow, and they said we are going to play this game.. i am excited about it, but scared because i don't like the sound of things popping.
- Nicole (18 Mar 2009)

This game sounds fun but I don't like the sound of giving razor blades to elementary school kids. I think this would be better suited to older teenagers and young adults. Alternatively, using a regular disposable razor would be a lot safer.
- Brandon (24 Mar 2009)

my youth would love this.thanks

Hi! Wanted to feedback. This game was brilliant! Got everyone involved and laughing! I would make the follow recommendations to anyone doing this game.

1. Get bin liners (refust sacks) and cut head holes and arm holes to protect the teens sunday best LOL!
2. Use water baloons for water filled ones, normal baloons didnt take water very well (dissapointingly)
3. Make the nicks in the razor fairly large else you will find the baloon doesnt pop!
4. Have a bowl of water next to the shavers so they can get rid of the foam on the razor and then carry on

Took me ages cleaning up shaving foam off furniture and the floor afterwards, but it was certainly worth it!

This game is awesome! we played it and everyone was having a great time! although 1 group saw the nick in the razor and tried to avoid it but at the very end they slipped and popped it! great game!
- Joel (20 Sep 2009)

this games sounds awesome!

Everyone was holding their breath!! We needed to judge the game a bit differently because none of our balloons popped, but that didn't get us down! We loved it-and we smelled fabulous afterwords
- JJ (19 Apr 2010)

We played it in grade 5 (10 years old) with disposable razors, lots of fun
- Karly (15 Jun 2010)

um this game might not be safe for 5-7 aged primary school kids because they might think that the shaving foam (cream) is whiped cream and eat it and because of the word: rasors.
- isabella (5 Jan 2011)

I can't wait to play this with my kids at Winter Retreat. I will have kids ages 6-10 and think this will be just the thing for them to do with thier cans of shaving cream. Think we will do this the first night there, that way all the shaving cream will be gone before bedtime.

Hi Mickey There are a number of possibilities - its hard to pin down based on your comment. You may have not prepared your face enough before the shave (lots of hot water), you may have not lathered your face for a long enough time (*at least* 30 seconds a minute or longer is better), you may have had a dull blade, or you may have been holding the razor with just a bit too much angle. Next time it happens try either following through on the stroke (not pressing down but using a little more force to move the razor forward ) or using shorter strokes.  Since you say its only happens sometimes I suspect its just a bit of technique that needs refining.
