Give it up

This is a good activity for lock-ins and other longer term periods. First build a large cross using 4x4's. It should be pretty tall. Or, as an alternative, you can get a large sheet of plywood and paint a cross on it. It must be made of a material you can pound nails into, as the nails are an intergral part. When finished building, have the kids write something that is clouding their relationship with Christ. For example, an older teen might write that they are tempted to engage in sexual relations. The kids should then be allowed to come to the cross and nail their papers to the cross. A period of silent individual prayer can come afterwards. The entire point is to teach kids to give up their problems to Christ.

A variation is to have kids write the names of people and things they need to forgive on a heart shaped peice of paper and nail it to the cross.

Both activities teach valuable Christian lessons--forgiveness and freedom in Christ.   Submitted by: Brittany B.

this was a great game. we play it about once a month and one kid told me it makes him feel much closer to god.

A great addition to this game is that after the prayer, everyone paints over the thing that is clouding their relationship with Christ with red paint. Say "This represents the blood of Christ, that covers our sins".

I have done this in a different form, instead of the cross, we had a bonfire and had kids right down things that they felt guilty about and needed to be forgiven, after they had them written down they were put in the fire burned up. Great for camping trips!
